Glossary of customs terms
The term ATA is a contraction of the expressions "Temporary Admission" and "Temporary Admission". This booklet is the result of an international convention signed in Brussels on December 6, 1961 which allows the free movement of certain goods free of all duties and taxes on the territory of all the contracting states. In the countries adhering to the convention, the A.T.A. replaces the various customs documents normally required at the successive stages of an operation for the temporary use of goods abroad: temporary export from the country issuing the carnet, transit, re-export from the country of use and re-import into the issuing country, import temporary in the country of use.
